37 Psalm 4
“Take delight in the LORD, and he will give you your heart’s desire.”
Let’s take a delight in the LORD because of WHO He IS, not what He can give. As Christians we know about Lord God’s Promises and Blessings. As Christians we know He gives good gifts. As Christians we know that EVERYTHING is His and we can have what is His. As Christians we know He can and will give us the desires of our hearts. But take a minute and ask yourself when was the last time you delighted in the LORD. Not to want anything or need anything, but just because you love Him and enjoy being in His presence. When was the last time you marveled at His infinite mind blowing wisdom and ways. When was the last time you thanked Him for His creation. That you reflected on the awesomeness of His creation. That you thanked Him for how marvelous, and intricate, and one of a kind He has made you. When was the last time you thanked Him for making you in His image.
When we delight in someone we want to spend time with them. We enjoy being around them. We want to share everything with then. We confide in them. We have trust and confidence in them. We can be around them without saying a word. We listen to what they have to say. We adore, cherish, and honor that special someone. That’s the level of delight we should have with the LORD.
This pandemic has caused us not be able to get out and about and not take delight in the things we use to do or people we use to see. But the pandemic has given us the opportunity to delight ourselves more in the LORD. It has afforded us the opportunity to spend more time with Him. For the most part, for over a year we’ve been at home, not able to venture out as before. We act like we see Jesus outside walking in a tank top, shorts, and sandals in 80 degree sunshine making fun of us because we’re stuck in the house. But we need to remember He is right there with us… cooped up in the house with us… being ignored by us… and watching us pout and be dismayed because we are inside.
Let’s take every opportunity to delight in the LORD because He is the LORD. Let it be a genuine delight not a GRUDGINGLY DO I GOTTA attitude. Let’s not fit/pencil Him into our life/schedule. Let’s not make Him our LAST thing to do, but our FIRST thing we got to do.
